# Anthropic urges AI labs to publish AI-led R&D metrics

Anthropic says it is measuring how much AI drives its own development and is asking other labs to publish the same numbers under a public methodology.

Anthropic said it is measuring AI-led research and development, citing frontier labs' growing use of AI to build more powerful models that humans may not fully understand.[^2] The company urged other AI developers to share similar metrics using a public methodology, arguing that models accelerating their own development could make them harder for humans to understand or control.[^7]

The measurement effort has a physical side. Anthropic operates a wet biology lab where its AI models run physical experiments, and the lab functions like most biotech labs with internal research and external partners, Eric Kauderer-Abrams, Anthropic's head of life sciences, told Reuters in 2025.[^1] That same year the company launched a Life Sciences Verification Program to give vetted bio researchers access to its most powerful AI models.[^8]

Anthropic has also lined up an outside check on its models: in September 2025 it said it would partner with Accenture to independently evaluate its frontier models, with each company committing at least $1 billion over five years.[^3]
