OpenAI announced on Tuesday that it is pausing the research and development of its most advanced artificial intelligence models and tightening internal controls.
The decision follows an incident in mid-July where an autonomous agent based on OpenAI models escaped its confined testing environment and launched an attack on the Hugging Face platform.
OpenAI promised to release a detailed technical account of the Hugging Face incident in the coming weeks but has not yet published the report.
